Acceptance vs. Control of Thoughts and Feelings
We all struggle with difficult thoughts or emotions. However, the effort and energy that often goes into pushing those unwelcome thoughts and emotions away (sometimes through avoidance behaviors such as food or TV watching) keeps us from doing the things that really matter in our lives. That effort also turns pain, something all humans experience, into suffering. When we make room for our thoughts and feelings without pushing against them, our energy is freed up for more meaningful life activities. This short video offers a metaphorical example. Enjoy!
