Individual and Couples Therapist
Entering therapy is an act of courage–a leap of faith. Kind of like starting the first day of school or a new job, feelings of anxiety, reserve, curiosity and hope are common. As the therapeutic alliance builds, sharing your concerns and focusing on your goals becomes the norm.
Soon, what you are working on in sessions will become part of your life outside of sessions. One day you will look back and see how all of those small changes moved you closer to your goals.
I’d like to partner with you in helping you reach those goals for yourself and in your relationships. I specialize in working with couples, families, parents, and individuals seeking to improve their lives and relationships.
Do you find yourself irritable, snapping at your children, co-workers or partner? Do you tend to be self-critical, feel you must be a perfectionist at home or work, or spend a lot of time worrying? Do you experience fuzzy thinking when stressed? Do you find yourself eating when you’re not hungry? Are you noticing recurring, destructive relationship patterns but feel helpless to change them?
As a licensed psychotherapist, I work with individuals to help them find peace amidst stress, anxiety and depression and build positive and healthy relationships in their lives. Uncovering self-defeating thoughts and vague negative feelings is a liberating first step in your healing process (some of these may have been carried over from childhood experiences just beneath your awareness but which are very much a part of your present.)
You will learn to identify emotions and triggers connected to these negative thoughts and behaviors. Through cognitive reframing and practicing new coping skills, testing faulty assumptions, learning positive self-talk strategies, and practicing relaxation techniques, you will experience increased clarity and energy.
Together, we will identify your therapy goals and work toward a more positive relationship with yourself and others. Wishing you peace and joy in the present. I look forward to working with you.
Marriage & Couples Counseling Services
Do you wish you could communicate better when conflicts arise? Are you feeling like stubbornness and unwillingness to compromise are causing feelings of resentment toward your marriage or partner? Does anger–saying and doing awful things you don’t mean–sometimes leave you feeling guilty and confused? Do you worry the love you once shared is forever lost?
If so, the good news is many couples enter therapy with these same concerns and goals. Our couples counseling is where the work and fun can begin as you learn how to communicate without arguing, and how to trust again.
During sessions, guided dialogues and exercises that seem challenging become well-used tools at home. It is my privilege to witness the couple’s aha moments as they create safe dialogues and learn new ways to come together as a couple. Couples counseling and marriage therapy are useful tools in strengthening your relationship.
I will help you clarify your problem areas, set goals and educate you using evidence based practices. My role is as a compassionate counselor, respecting your unique individual histories and all that you bring into the relationship. This is a passion and a privilege. I look forward to working with you.
