Individual, Adolescent, and Couples Counselor

Licensed Professional Counselor

Jehanzeb Dar, Houston Multicultural CounselorTaking the first step to seek therapy may be a stressful process, but it can also be one of the most empowering decisions you make in your life. My goal is to help make your experience in therapy a liberating one.

Perhaps you’ve thought about therapy, but are worried that people would judge you or perceive you differently if they found out you were seeking support. Perhaps you’re being too hard on yourself for wanting help.

But what if therapy is a space for you to slow down, process, and refocus? What if it’s an opportunity to explore yourself in a supportive and non-judgmental environment? What if it serves as a pathway to discovering your strengths, improving your relationships, and achieving your lifetime goals? What if it helps you realize that fulfilling your dreams is possible?

Counseling with a Multicultural Focus

Since 2016, I have been providing individual, couples, and group therapy services to people from diverse racial, ethnic, gender, socioeconomic, sexual orientation, age, and religious backgrounds. I work closely with clients who face challenges with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, substance abuse and addictions, self-esteem, life transitions, and trauma.

As an advocate for social justice counseling principles, I am committed to a therapeutic framework that is sensitive to cultural and contextual factors. I give specific focus to issues involving discrimination, racial/ethnic identity development, microaggressions, racism-related stress, and racism-based trauma. I utilize a person-centered and solution-focused approach to make therapy a collaborative process that focuses on your needs and goals.

Instilling Hope in Relationships

Healthy communication is undoubtedly one of the most important qualities of a satisfying and fulfilling relationship. At the same time, what’s often overlooked is the importance of connection. Feeling connected to your partner not only requires good communication, but also a strong foundation of respect, compassion, and trust. Connection is the feeling that you and your partner are on the same side and not in competition with one another.

It is understandable that challenges in a relationship lead to feelings of disconnection or even hopelessness. As a therapist who utilizes the Gottman Method, I will work with you to learn new ways of communicating as well as revive your sense of connection and solidarity as a couple.

Life can be overwhelming and filled with uncertainty, but you don’t have to navigate through it on your own. My goal as a therapist is not only to support you in your journey but to empower you to find the path you envision for yourself. I look forward to working with you.

What Clients Are Saying:

Sessions have been amazing. Mr. Dar has been a great decision for me. I’m so glad I was paired with him. And I’m happy that I made the decision for myself to commit to these sessions. I’m so grateful.

Great! Everything from the first phone call, to the assignment of the counselor, and the help that I received from Jehanzeb was so much better than expected. It really could not have been a better fit for me!

Jehanzeb is excellent. Communication is a whole lot better and my partner is excited that I am in counseling too. Jehanzeb is good at asking questions and he sides with what’s right, not the person. I am really impressed with him.

I loved Jehanzeb! He was very caring and really made me feel heard! I’ve already recommended him to all my friends and family.

Jehanzeb has been wonderful. He listens and knows exactly what to ask us about, and how to guide us to conversations that have made our communication stronger and more effective. Sometimes a session is hard, emotionally, but we have felt they have been productive and helpful. Jehanzeb is a great counselor, and we can also tell that he’s just “good people” in general, to borrow an old-fashioned phrase.

So far it’s amazing. When I first was recommended a therapist so quickly by the practice manager, Frankie, I was skeptical about the fit, but Jehanzeb is exactly the right fit for me in every aspect. He’s timely, patient, calm, smart, and I look forward to chatting with him more.

So pleased with my experience! I feel I’ve met my favorite therapist ever!

My husband and I have been working with Jehanzeb Dar as our couples counselor since January.  We have been so pleased with our experience, we wanted to share it with you: Admittedly, as a female, I was hesitant to work with a male counselor.  Jehanzeb has proven my bias to be unfounded.  He is sensitive to my experience as a woman. Jehanzeb is sure to give my husband and me adequate space to contribute and share.  He makes us both feel seen and heard. My husband feels especially fortunate to have a counselor who has experience working with addiction. Jehanzeb is kind, patient, personable, and professional.  I have never had a counselor as ethical as Jehanzeb.  I have learned so much about what it means to be ethical and fair from having him as a counselor.  My husband and I look forward to learning more as we continue to work with him.  We are grateful to have found him and to have him as a part of our recovery team!
