DeLynda's Focus
I believe asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness. My approach is warm, compassionate, and collaborative, with a focus on helping you better understand yourself and develop practical tools for navigating life’s challenges.
I use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach to help you recognize patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we’ll explore what may be keeping you stuck, identify your unique strengths, and work toward healthier ways of coping and responding.
My goal is to help you gain clarity, build resilience, strengthen your confidence, and move forward with greater hope. You don’t have to navigate difficult seasons alone. Having someone walk alongside you can make a meaningful difference.
DeLynda's Other Specialities
My primary passion is working with adults and adolescents who are navigating emotional challenges, difficult experiences, relationships, and significant life changes. I also support clients experiencing:
- Anxiety and Depression: Developing practical tools to manage difficult emotions, recognize unhelpful patterns, and build healthier coping skills.
- Trauma and Grief: Creating a supportive space to process difficult experiences, loss, and the emotions that can accompany them.
- Life Transitions: Supporting you through major changes, new seasons of life, and times when you feel uncertain about what comes next.
- Relationships and Family Changes: Exploring communication, boundaries, connection, and relationship challenges.
- Self-Esteem and Confidence: Helping you recognize your strengths, rebuild confidence, and develop a healthier relationship with yourself.
I draw from my clinical training in CBT, trauma-informed care, multicultural counseling, and mindfulness-based interventions. My approach is tailored to your unique needs and goals, with an emphasis on practical strategies you can use in everyday life.
More About DeLynda
When I’m not studying or working, I enjoy gardening, cooking, and tackling DIY projects around my home. I love being creative, learning new things, and creating spaces where people feel comfortable and welcome.
Gardening has become a favorite because it reminds me that growth doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience, care, and nurturing. I believe those same qualities are important when walking alongside someone through their own season of growth and change.
History And Qualifications
Before entering the counseling field, I spent more than 33 years in corporate leadership, where I had the privilege of coaching, mentoring, developing, and supporting people through personal and professional challenges. That experience gave me a genuine understanding of the pressures that can come with work, relationships, responsibilities, and major life decisions.
My own transition from a long-term corporate career into counseling has also taught me about change, resilience, purpose, and starting a new chapter. I bring that perspective, along with my background in psychology and graduate clinical training, to my work with clients.
I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Houston Christian University, with an expected graduation in Summer 2027. My clinical training includes CBT, trauma-informed care, multicultural counseling, assessment and testing, psychopathology, crisis response, and group and family counseling. I also have clinical exposure to EMDR and mindfulness-based interventions.
Graduate Degree: M.A. Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Houston Christian University, expected Summer 2027
Counselor Affiliations: American Counseling Association (ACA), Student Member
Undergraduate Degree: B.S. Psychology, University of Houston
