About Joey Harmon

He/Him/His

Life is filled with uncertainty and frustration. There are moments when we feel as if there is no hope and that no one understands where we’re coming from. It’s a lonely experience to feel that there is nowhere you can turn.

My goal is to provide a helpful, healing environment where you can feel empowered to get out of your mind and into your life.

Instead of someone who tries to “fix” or “cure” you, my role is to meet you where you’re at. To come alongside you so that you can put the pieces of your life back together. As someone who works with all ages, I make sure to tailor my services based on what my clients are realistically ready for. There may be more people than you think who suffer from things such as emotional dysregulation, excessive anxiety, low self-esteem, the effects of trauma, finding the right career path, or other types of suffering.

Or maybe you’re a parent who is trying their best to raise and connect with their child, and nothing seems to be working. Suffering is one of the few guarantees that this life has to offer; however, one can still derive meaning from said suffering, and find ways to live a life of vitality. I help people make room for the painful thoughts and emotions that plague them, and provide encouragement to identify valued life directions. Pain can take on many forms; depressive episodes, self-hatred, crippling fear or anxiety, the sense that you are alone in this world, not having a clear direction of how to proceed forward in life, a sense of isolation from your children or other loved ones, etc.

And even though these are universal experiences, that doesn’t make the frustration any less palpable. That’s where I come in. My duty is to help you move with instead of moving against these harsh inner experiences.

Below you can find the different types of therapies and trainings that I offer and see which one fits your current needs the best.

Joey's Focus

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

For adults, teens, and pre-teens, I provide Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an evidence-based practice that normalizes the struggles of the human condition, while also helping you identify what exactly it is you want out of this thing called life.

Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT)

Most kiddos don’t do too well sitting around and passively talking for 50 minutes straight. That’s where play therapy comes in! CCPT is a form of play therapy in which your child will be able to express themselves in a lot of the ways they want to. Through play therapy, children use play as their language and toys as their words. CCPT instills connection to one’s emotions, facilitates greater decision-making skills, improves confidence levels, and provides a completely judgement free environment for kids to come to terms with the outside world. Appropriate for children ages 3-9. This service is offered in-person only.

Joey's Other Specialities

Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT)

You’re already doing great things as a parent; CPRT is here to add on to that! CPRT involves a group of parents who meet once a week over 10 weeks to learn skills to help bolster their relationship with their children. Practical skills for parents are introduced, with the bulk being techniques that therapists are trained in as well. Appropriate for up to 8 parents of children aged 3-9. Groups occur periodically, and individual training can be provided upon request.

Career Construction Interview (CCI)

The CCI is a 3-session modality where we explore your career concerns, what you want out of a career, and possible work environments that suit you best. Combines a formal career assessment with an open-ended interview format to learn what you currently want out of a career. CCI is appropriate for anyone 13 and up and I offer this service in-person or virtual.
