Are You Struggling With Cravings & Addictive Behaviors?
There is hope! Addiction therapy can help you gain control over your choices and heal from the inside out. Whether you or a loved one want to change habits or recover from addiction, successful addiction treatments are available.
Signs of Addiction
The line between “normal” and an addictive disorder can be very thin. Addiction affects everything, but it can shift gradually. You might be able to fulfill your responsibilities and get through the day, yet there is something off, even if no one else can see it. It might seem that a drink, a pill, or another habit provides instant relief. But through that experience, you still sense that something is holding you back from finding true balance and living as your best self. It may be that you lack the energy and confidence you need to feel comfortable expressing yourself without a boost. And you find you are often overindulging in things that offer temporary self-assurance, only to regret it later. Perhaps you are looking for a positive change in your life, but you worry that there’s no way out of this cycle. Or maybe you fear that you’ll be told to completely give up something you enjoy. Even though you feel overwhelmed, frustrated and exhausted, are you ready to take control of your life? Do you want to stop just surviving and start thriving?
Substance Abuse & Addiction Affects All Types of People
Although you may be aware that you’re demonstrating the signs of addiction, you may feel unable to talk to anyone about your fears. Especially if you are a successful professional, it may seem as though you are living a double life. Or that you should be able to “deal with it” on your own. In truth, however, you are not alone. And struggling with substances or addictive behaviors does not make you broken or weak. Pursuing addiction treatment is the first step to returning back to your authentic self.
All Human Beings are Designed to Seek Pleasure and Avoid Pain.
Society is often hard on the average drug abuser, but when we (as in anyone) experience pain or discomfort, it’s natural that we wish to alleviate it. For example, if our brains are low on dopamine, we pursue a dopamine boost. If we experienced trauma, we look for ways to numb the pain. Shopping, sex, food, drugs and alcohol can provide temporary bursts of pleasure and help numb distress. While none of these things can offer long-term relief or healing, it’s still common to get stuck in a cycle of seeking pleasure, sensing that pleasure fading away, and then seeking more pleasure from the same immediate, reliable source—even if this doesn’t serve us in the long-term (often ending with a negative consequence). This is especially true for those whose brains are “wired” for addiction or people who grew up in environments that normalized addictive behaviors. Over time, addiction makes relief, calm, happiness, and just sober living even more elusive. And, although you may have started casually or with good intentions, dependency can develop before you even realize it. No matter who you are, it’s difficult to break out of an engrained pattern on your own. Thankfully, there is help and hope. With the support of a qualified therapist, you can take hold of your life and find a new, healthy way to feel balanced, empowered, and at peace.
Addiction Therapy Can Help You Gain Clarity and Direction
At Eddins Counseling Group, our primary goal is to help you develop the insight, awareness, and tools needed to feel better over the long-term. It’s important to note that we are not a residential facility and so we don’t offer intensive treatment. However, if you are growing increasingly reliant on substances or behaviors, or if you have finished intensive treatment and now seek ongoing sobriety support, we can help. We know that no two people are alike, and we will not label you with a diagnosis or use a one-size-fits-all approach. In your first session, your therapist will offer a thorough assessment, allowing you the opportunity to share your specific concerns and therapy goals. If you feel unsure whether you’re struggling with a habit or addiction, your therapist can help you unpack your concerns and more clearly understand the lines between use, abuse and addiction. Working together, you can come up with strategies for reframing the thoughts and behaviors that make you feel defeated, overwhelmed or out of control. You can establish reliable strategies to recognize and address cravings when they arise, creating new routines and healthy habits that support the lifestyle you want.
Addiction Treatment Addresses Difficult Thoughts & Emotions
In sessions, you can investigate the difficult experiences, thoughts, or emotions that you’re currently trying to cope with, as well as any buried trauma. By diving underneath compulsions, you can work through buried grief, stress, anger, relationship issues, or other challenges and discover what you really need to find relief. As you begin to truly understand your underlying needs, you can empower yourself to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively, even in times of distress. Overall, you can feel better equipped to live in alignment with your values and work on preventing relapse. Addiction therapy can help you feel more connected to your truest, strongest self. Sessions offer the safe, confidential space necessary to discover what you want and interrupt the patterns keeping you stuck. You are more resilient than you realize, and once you move past the urges and behaviors blocking your way, you can effect immense positive change in all aspects of your life. It is possible to feel energized, engaged, and ready to break free from addiction.
