John's Focus
My approach blends the insights of the psychodynamic model with the warmth and genuineness of person-centered therapy. I believe that within each of us lies an incredible potential for healing and transformation.
My role is to help you tap into this inner strength, illuminate the past’s influence on your present, and empower you to navigate life’s complexities with greater clarity and confidence.
John's Other Specialities
Here’s what you can expect when working with me:
- A Collaborative Partnership: Therapy is a shared endeavor, and my primary focus is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and respected. We’ll work together to define your goals and tailor a treatment plan that aligns with your unique needs and preferences.
- A Gentle Guide: Nothing you bring to our sessions is off-limits. I believe that every experience – even the challenging ones – holds valuable lessons. I’ll provide a non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences with complete openness and honesty.
- Nurturing Your Inner Compass: My ultimate goal is to empower you to become your best self. Through introspection, exploring different perspectives, and developing coping mechanisms, you’ll gain the tools and confidence to navigate life’s challenges with greater resilience and purpose.
More About John
My own journey to becoming a therapist was deeply influenced by the transformative power of therapy in my own life. Therapy wasn’t just about overcoming obstacles; it was about understanding myself, embracing my complexities, and discovering my authentic self. And it’s this passion for personal growth that fuels my desire to support others on their unique journeys.
Outside of the clinic, I enjoy attending live music and theatre events, spoiling my dog, Penny, and traveling to faraway places.
History And Qualifications
I am currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. Previously, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology at the University of Texas – Permian Basin. In order to ensure that my clients are provided with the highest quality of care, I am practicing under the supervision of Diana Cabrera-Stewart, LPC-S in addition to the guidance provided by my professors.
Beyond my therapeutic training, I have a vibrant background that shapes my approach to client care. My previous career in the performing arts as well as the non-profit space have given me a nuanced understanding of the human experience and the multifaceted ways we interact with the world. This diverse perspective, coupled with the multicultural approach central to my training, allows me to connect with clients from various backgrounds and create a therapy space that feels safe, accessible, and personally meaningful.
