Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) Group
Are you one of the millions of Americans suffering from insomnia? Is the tossing and turning you do every night leading to nights of extreme anxiety? Are the sleeping medications you’re prescribed making you feel sedated, or just not working anymore? Do you have nowhere else to turn and just want to find a working solution? If so a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) group could be the solution you’re looking for.
What is CBT-I?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia has shown to be the most effective way to treat insomnia without the use of medication. If the suffering your insomnia is causing is leading to a tipping point, a CBT-I group will help guide you down a path to successful sleep habits. In fact, clients of CBT-I have shown sleep improvement in as little as 2-4 weeks.
CBT-I guides patients through a series of adjustments in sleep-related behaviors. Initial sessions in a CBT-I group covers sleep education on healthy sleep patterns with elements that affect normal sleep quality and quantity. Later the focus is on addressing factors that contribute to the continuance of insomnia such as:
- The harmful thoughts that the client’s bed has become conditioned with wakefulness and worry, which leads to restless sleep.
- Identifying and rejecting habits that were developed in an effort to improve sleep, but have stopped being effective.
- Reducing sleep-related worry and other sources of intense stimulation.
The group facilitator identifies the most applicable targets for behavior changes and helps clients overcome walls in making the necessary, and often challenging adjustments in sleep behaviors. This means you can concentrate your energy on the changes that will most likely yield progress in their sleep.
Why a CBT-I Group?
A CBT-I group is hard work and requires your commitment, but it does work. A CBT-I group will help you discover the underlying causes of your insomnia without the use of medication. Unlike medication, CBT-I has no side effects and will not lead to dependency or even addiction. A CBT-I group is more affordable in the long run and the experiences shared in group therapy are invaluable on the road to healing. The skills and behaviors learned in the group could lead to improvement after only a few weeks.
