Understanding Different Types of Anxiety
- Stress – occurs in response to change. Persistent stress doesn’t allow your body to recover and can lead to physical illness, burnout, anxiety or depression.
- Generalized Anxiety – involves persistent worry that preoccupies the mind making it difficult to relax. You might feel as if your mind is constantly moving from one worry to the next, expecting the worst.
- Anxiety/Panic Attacks – involve an intense physical experience of terror. Symptoms often include heart palpitations, throat tightening, chest pain, increased heart rate, difficulty breathing and fear of dying. You can learn to manage these symptoms.

- Trauma – any experience of feeling unsafe physically or emotionally, whether in childhood or adulthood can lead to trauma symptoms such as feelings of dread, fear, avoidance, emotional reactivity, hypervigilance, distrusting others and numbness.
- Obsessions & Compulsions – are persistent, unwanted, uncontrollable thoughts (obsessions) or behaviors/rituals (compulsions) to get rid of unwanted thoughts or feelings.
