Sarah Soto is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, and a certified EMDR trained clinician. She is an emotional guardian and a professional secret keeper. As a therapist, she has worked with individuals, adolescents, and couples. She is an advocate for the LGBTQIA community and is a multi-culturally sensitive therapist.
Sarah’s specialities and professional interests include helping people through life changes, trauma, abuse, anxiety, stress, depression, ADHD management, relationship issues, and the everyday things we deal with as humans. She is a proponent of the mind-body connection and believes that growth and healing occur with help from a combination of cognitive and emotional processing and physical awareness and observation. Sarah is dedicated to the mental health and wellness movement, and believes in practicing efficacy-based, cutting-edge therapeutic techniques. She strives to be on top of her therapeutic game and loves to continue to research and learn to provide the best services she can for all of her clients.
Sarah is interested in, and passionate about helping you connect all of who and what you are, and in helping you fit that into all the different parts of your life. She is invested in helping those who are “fine” become more than just fine. She is inspired by the question, “What if it works?” She is invested in helping you uncover and stay true to the things you already know but may be afraid to believe or follow, and she is passionate about her calling; offering a lifeline, hope, and relief for those who suffer in silence.
How we get to change:
Change can be demonstrated through your growth, unseen emotional experiences, gained insights, small and large victories, and personal transformations. Change is reaching goals and your own idea of your potential; change is experiencing relief, gaining insight, and the little moments that make that happen. Sarah believes that change is fluid and continuous and hopes that you will give yourself permission to let her help you get to where you want to be. Because therapy is both a science and an art, and because we are and deal directly with humans, the combination of things it takes for change to occur is complex. In order for change to manifest within therapy, it first takes a strong counselor and client relationship. Sarah is authentic, present, empathetic, knowledgeable, accepting, patient, and skilled.

Sarah operates from an integrative and eclectic framework; she utilizes holistic, humanistic, person-centered, solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral approaches. She believes that utilizing only one theoretical framework limits a therapist’s tools. She practices using her own personal awareness and client physical cues in all sessions in order to help establish a deeper connection between mind, body, and emotional responses. Sarah also practices Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a cutting-edge, advanced therapeutic solution for the places in your brain, body, and spirit where you feel stuck. It is a tool used to help get you unstuck and to help you heal from large or small emotional wounds. It is a way to help with feelings or reactions that are too numb, or too much. EMDR can help brain processing and trauma healing through the mimicking of REM sleep like eye-movements, while you pay gentle attention to memories, sensations, and thoughts. EMDR has shown to be an effective treatment for client’s living with trauma, PTSD, childhood issues, anxiety, depression, performance issues, and more.
Sarah received EMDR treatment as a client in 2011 following a major car accident. For her, this accident represented the boiling point of a lifelong history of repressing and suppressing any trauma or wound she encountered. For all of her life up to this point, she was running on a teeth-clenching, muscle tension causing, headache-inducing autopilot without even knowing it. If you asked her, she would say she was “fine”.
Not long into her EMDR treatment, she experienced a weight lifting off of her shoulders she didn’t even know she was carrying. It was losing 100 pounds of pressure at once; like waking up from a long and foggy sleep. It was clarifying. Her personal experience with EMDR was so healing, relieving, and transformative she immediately decided it was her calling to help bring this relief and healing to others.
What sessions are like with Sarah
In a session, Sarah starts with the person, the energy, the issues, intuition, information, and goals. Sarah believes in treating each client as an individual and knows that people are doing the best they can with what they have. Sarah appreciates the resilience and bravery it takes for all clients to envision and practice a better version of themselves. As a therapist, it is imperative to understand what a person wants, where they come from, what they are struggling with, and what they are looking for. She then uses the best of what she knows to help; if she doesn’t know, she researches, she asks, and she learns.
In the therapy room, Sarah is a lot like she is outside of it. Despite her efforts, she does not have a traditional counselor voice, although she does like to occasionally wear the staple counselor cardigan. She has a tendency to sit with her legs crisscrossed in session and she talks with her hands. Sessions are both professional and casual. She’s completely down to lay down with her clients (after asking permission, of course) to teach deep breathing or practice meditations. She’s a visual learner, so there will also probably be picture drawing when she is explaining something or teaching a new technique.
Sarah believes in the holistic qualities of the healing arts. She believes in therapy that is non-judgmental, humanistic, goal-centered, person-centered, integrative, and eclectic. She believes in authenticity in life and in sessions and tries to practice what she preaches on a regular basis. She never assigns or expects clients to attempt anything she would not be willing to try herself.
Sarah believes in the artistry of therapy and is grateful for the honor and responsibility of sharing moments of people’s lives and stories. She thinks that humor is one of a therapist’s best tools. She believes in immediacy and presence in sessions. She believes in the power of understanding where you come from and what your patterns are, and also in practicing and creating the life you want for yourself. She believes that therapists and clients are constantly changing and pulsing with life and possibility and that the therapeutic experience should reflect that creative fluidity. She believes in self-actualization and striving for whatever your Yoda-status may be, even while learning to feel peaceful where you are now.

More About Sarah
Sarah was moved to enter the field of counseling following unrelenting plot twists, foreshadowing events, scuffles with fate, and the luckiest stars. Sarah also holds Bachelor degrees in English and in Radio, Television, and Film. Sarah’s love for stories in books and movies translated artistically and intrinsically into her eventual profession, listening to the incredible stories of her client’s lives.
Sarah enjoys trying to new restaurants and eating with the people she loves; she works on trying to enjoy going to the gym. Sarah lives with an equal pet to human ratio. She is family-oriented and loves to take pictures. Sarah is an extrovert and an ENFP. Sarah likes big fluffy comforters and having adventures (which can include things like checking out a new grocery store). She loves to travel and is easily pleased and excited.

Sarah Soto is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. She holds a Master of Science in Counseling with a specialization in Clinical and Mental Health.
