Becky's Focus

Have you felt as if you’re constantly gasping for breath? Perhaps you’ve tossed and turned in your sleep because your mind keeps racing and you can’t shut it off. Have you noticed your hands get really cold and begin to shake? If so, you have experienced anxiety. I understand anxiety because I’ve been there. The fear comes and sometimes you can’t stop it. In reality, you can and I can show you how. Perhaps you’ve been diagnosed with a chronic illness and you find yourself overwhelmed. I also live with a chronic illness and understand the fear, uncertainty, pain, and sadness you may feel. Do you struggle with infertility, adoption issues, or other women’s issues? I can empathize with the fear and pain you are feeling.

Becky's Other Specialities

Do you feel you’re suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to a traumatic event you experienced as a child or adolescent or even a recent traumatic experience like a car accident? I am an EMDR trained therapist and can assist you in releasing the fear and pain you may be holding onto from your experience. It’s inevitable: we get stuck and unsure of our next step. In these instances, I find that using EMDR is the best way to open up and access a different part of your brain. In EMDR many of my clients open up to me in ways they never have before and discover new areas within themselves that they never knew existed. EMDR therapy can be a powerful way to heal from the inside out. It allows you to process your traumatic experience, anxiety, depression, or grief without having to re-experience the pain and trauma. The brain knows how to heal itself and EMDR allows it to do so. As an anxiety counselor, I specialize in working with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic illness or pain, infertility, adoption issues, grief, and loss. My approach focuses on each individual with empathy, hope, honesty, and understanding. It is my goal to create a warm, caring environment free from judgment or shame where you can share, heal, and grow while we work through your concerns. I strongly believe that counseling is a collaborative process where the counselor and client work together as a team to develop and work toward their goals. In therapy, I primarily use Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Creative Arts Therapy, also called Expressive Arts Therapy. “Creative arts therapies share a commitment to the ‘expressive action that engages emotions in a direct and physical way; an ability to generate creative energy as a healing force for the mind, body, and spirit; and a belief that creative imagination can find its way throughout the most perplexing and complex problems and conflicts” (McNiff, 2005). I am an EMDR Trained Therapist and strongly believe that EMDR is not just for trauma. EMDR can be used with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief & loss, and chronic illness & pain. For further information about EMDR and the process, please click here. And if it doesn’t feel right for you, I also utilize traditional therapy.
