Ameli's Focus
I have a particular fondness working with OCD and its sub-types (harm, aggression, sexual, religious, contamination, illness, etc). Many people with harm and other obsessions believe that their intrusive thoughts are evidence that they are dangerous to others. This quest for certainty can leave them feeling exhausted and depressed when another doubt inevitably pops up. But, these obsessions and other forms of OCD are highly treatable, and clients who successfully incorporate certain interventions often experience total symptom relief. I also specialize in religious/spiritual trauma and those who are struggling with doubt and uncertainty around spirituality. During times of crisis or deep suffering, many individuals find themselves questioning their faith. They often begin a “deconstruction” process by which they slowly let go of a belief system that no longer seems right. This can be a terrifying experience, shaking the very foundations of one’s life, since religious beliefs can offer safety, support, and a sense of belonging. However, clients learn to work with doubt and uncertainty to “reconstruct” their faith through a new spirituality. They often describe the new spirituality as true freedom, finding one’s True Self, and/or recognizing one’s inherent belovedness for the first time.
Ameli's Other Specialities
While the OCD and spiritual trauma populations are well-suited for my practice, a large part of my work is with more generalized issues. Most individuals seeking counseling are suffering from anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, stress, self-harm, and/or personality disorders. In fact, many of the clients who seek help for OCD and/or spiritual trauma also find that they struggle with depression or anxiety or self-harm, or a combination. The treatment issues are often related to each other or connected in some way.

Kirsten has been wonderful. I’m so happy with you guys. I’ve been recommending EMDR therapy to everyone. I’ve only had a couple of sessions of it, but I feel like it has helped me so much already. I’m so happy!
