Are you feeling like you are on an emotional rollercoaster? Sometimes getting intense feelings of inadequacy, shame, emptiness, helplessness, anxiety, anger, or an unidentifiable mix of these? Sometimes barely feeling anything at all, just getting numb and disconnected from yourself and others?
Are you engaging in behaviors that both soothe and hurt you? These may be related to food, alcohol, drugs, sex/love, they may involve self-harm, or they may be less obvious like perfectionism or unhealthy boundaries/relationships.
Are you suffering from chronic pain? It may range from frequent stomach/digestion issues, neck/shoulder/back pain, or any chronic/serious medical condition.
Such experiences can be overwhelming and defeating – leaving you feeling anxious, depressed, alone, broken, damaged, or weird. Whatever you are feeling makes sense. The behaviors you are using have a function and helped you survive and cope. I believe that you have the ability to not only feel and cope better, but to reach whichever goal you are envisioning for yourself, whether it is more peace, balance, contentment, choice, connection, happiness, or fulfillment.
From my experience, clients often find that some current or past unresolved life experiences are at the root of what they are struggling with today. It could be anything from relational breaks/violations (e.g. judgmental words said to you, unreasonable expectations imposed on you, lack of nurturing), stressful situations (e.g. separation/divorce, parenting, work), to traumatic events, grief, loss, or trauma (e.g. developmental/complex, generational, historical). Whether you are aware of such experiences in your life or not, they may still affect you today.
Deep healing and lasting positive changes in sensations, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors are possible. I can facilitate such changes, drawing on my experiences as a counselor, trauma therapist, health coach, and former manager in the corporate world, as well as my own life experiences.
I will be here with you on your journey towards self-discovery, healing, and personal growth. I integrate various evidence-based approaches to enable you to process and heal from any unresolved experience in a safe and gentle way. Approaches that I often use are narrative, strength-based, Brainspotting, parts work, mindfulness, and holistic/integrative health approaches. Here is a short description of each:
Narrative: like CBT, it helps identify and address the self-limiting thoughts/stories that we tell ourselves and the meaning that we attach to events
Strength-based: This therapy helps identify and build upon our inner strengths and core values
Brainspotting: like EMDR, it facilitates the processing of unresolved life experiences and leverages the natural healing capabilities of the mind and body. For more information, please go to brainspotting therapy.
Parts therapy: helps identify and address the conflicting parts of ourselves like the inner critic, the angry, the anxious, and/or the hurt.
Mindfulness: is about learning to notice and accept whatever is in the moment, without judgment.
Integrative Health: includes discussing how nutrition, sleep, yoga/exercise, and other mind-body-spirit approaches can support psychological healing and growth
